Understanding Toxic Shame and Healthy Shame in the Recovery Process

Most therapists and clinicians are aware of the detrimental effects of toxic shame in abuse/addiction, but are unaware of the need to define, describe, and understand why we must possess a certain amount of healthy shame in our lives. John Bradshaw’s work on toxic shame and Pia Mellody’s work on the common characteristics of all children will be explored.
